Penalty Shooters: kick, swap gloves, save, repeat

Penalty Shooters is a penalty-shootout game, credited to FlashFooty on GamePix, in which you switch between striker and goalkeeper after every single kick and play the whole thing with a mouse. Before the first whistle you choose a fantasy league from seven countries — England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Brasil, France and Mexico — and then a team and a player from it. As the kicker you stop a yellow-and-red reticle sliding across the bottom of the goal, and holding the mouse button changes the height of the shot. As the goalie you click the reticle when it appears to dive. Among the penalty games on What Games Play, Penalty Kick Wiz uses 32 national teams in 3D and Penalty Superstar only puts you in goal; Penalty Shooters is the league-based one, and its kicks are aimed on two axes: the reticle sets the side and the hold sets the height.

How to play Penalty Shooters

Every round is a five-shot contest against another team. You shoot, then defend, then shoot again, and the round's winner moves on toward the cup.

Pick a fantasy league
The opening screen reads "Pick your fantasy league". Choose one of the seven countries; CHANGE LEAGUE on the main menu lets you switch later.

Choose team and player
Press START, then select a team and a player to represent it.

Take your kick
A yellow-red reticle slides along the lower part of the goal. Click to stop it, or hold the left button to change the height, then let go to shoot.

Make the save
After your kick you swap to goalie. Wait for the kicker to move, then click the reticle that appears in the goal to dive at it.

Roles swap every kick

You do not take five kicks and then face five. After each shot, scored or missed, you move to the other end of the ball.

Shot height on a hold

Holding the left mouse button changes how high the ball goes before you release, on top of the left-right placement set by the reticle.

The GamePix version opens with fantasy leagues for England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Brasil, France and Mexico, and CHANGE LEAGUE sits on the main menu.

Each best-of-five win earns points toward collecting the cup, with the next team waiting after every round.

Tips for Penalty Shooters

Break your own pattern. GamePix advises against repeating shots, so the goalie cannot read where the next one goes.
Use height as a second option. If the reticle keeps landing near the keeper, a higher or lower shot from the same spot changes the angle.
Hold your dive until contact. As goalie, wait for the kicker to strike the ball before you click.
Click the reticle, not the ball. The dive goes to the yellow-red marker that appears in the goal.
Treat every swap as a reset. Roles change after each kick, so settle your timing again before every shot and every save.
