Super Steve World: stomp, grab the cape and beat the clock

Super Steve World is a 2D pixel platformer by Marcell Rocha (PowerSlash Studios) in which Steve runs to the end of each level against a countdown timer, defeating enemies by jumping on their heads and bumping star blocks for coins, extra lives, a cape and fireballs. In-game the title screen reads "Steve's World", the name the same game uses on CrazyGames and Google Play. Level 1 is called Green Forest, and the HUD shows lives, score, coins, an item box and a TIME counter that starts at about 300. Dying sends Steve back to the start of the level, so each lost life also costs the ground you had covered. Steve is an ordinary brown-haired man in a blue shirt; he is not the Minecraft character of the same name.

What sets Super Steve World apart

A countdown on every level

The HUD's TIME counter was at 298 two seconds into Green Forest. It adds a race element on top of the usual avoid-and-collect play.

The cape reaches higher coins

One of the star-block rewards is a cape. CrazyGames notes that it lets Steve get up to coins and bonuses that a normal jump cannot reach.

Fireballs on X

Another star-block reward gives Steve fireballs. Before you have them, pressing X does nothing, as our test at the start of level 1 showed.

Deaths restart the level

Losing a life sends Steve back to the start of the level, so the five lives on the HUD are worth protecting.

Tips for Super Steve World

  • Bump star blocks early. A cape or fireballs from the first blocks makes the rest of the level easier than running it bare.
  • Land on heads, not sides. Enemies such as the green snake in Green Forest are beaten by jumping on top of them.
  • Glance at TIME on long levels. The counter starts near 300; if you spend a while hunting secrets, check it before you go back for more.
  • Look for secret areas. The GamePix description says hidden areas hold extra lives, which cushion the restart-on-death rule.
  • Switch to WASD if it suits you. The second key profile (WASD, K, J) keeps both hands on the left and centre of the keyboard.

Who is Super Steve World for?

Players who like a clock in platformers

The level timer turns each stage into a short race, not just a walk to the flag.

Fans of Super Onion Boy

It comes from the same developer and uses the same title-screen layout, HUD and controls card.

Anyone looking for a Mario-style browser game

Head-stomping, blocks with prizes and a power-up that lets you reach high places follow that template.

Timer, lives and coins

The Super Steve World HUD shows lives (×05 at the start), a five-digit score, a coin counter, an item box and a TIME counter that counts down from about 300. Star blocks can give extra lives as well as coins. If Steve dies, he goes back to the start of the level. No source we checked explains how points are awarded or what happens when the timer reaches zero, so we do not guess.
