Super Onion Boy: the game where the girl in the bubble first gets taken
Super Onion Boy is a 2D retro pixel platformer by Marcell Rocha's PowerSlash Studios and the first game in the series that continues in Super Onion Boy 2. Across 15 levels, Onion Boy jumps past enemies, collects coins and stars, and picks up items that restore health on the way to rescuing his kidnapped girlfriend. The opening scene sets it up: Onion Boy is asleep in a forest while a girl in a crown sings nearby, until a small red creature in a bubble traps her in a bubble of her own and floats off while she shouts "HELP!". Level 1 is Green Forest, and a TIME counter starts at around 300. The sequel, also on What Games Play, begins after this rescue and adds transformations, boss fights and potion chests; the original is the smaller, timer-driven version with a fixed set of 15 stages.

What sets Super Onion Boy apart
Where the Onion Boy story starts
This is the kidnapping that Super Onion Boy 2 follows up on. Play it first if you want the sequel's opening, where Onion Boy wakes up after the rescue, to make sense.
A timer on every level
The HUD's TIME counter starts near 300 and ticks down while you play, which the sequel's description on this site does not mention.
Stars as well as coins
Stars and coins are laid out in arcs above the ground, and yellow star blocks sit higher up. GamePix says stars add to your score.
A fixed set of 15 stages
All 15 level buttons fit on one screen, where the sequel pages through its level select 15 at a time.
Tips for Super Onion Boy
- Follow the arcs of coins. The coins and stars in Green Forest are laid out in curves above the ground; jump through the curve rather than walking under it.
- Hit the star blocks. The yellow blocks with stars are placed above the path for a reason; bump them from below.
- Keep an eye on TIME. It starts near 300 in level 1, so long detours for collectibles have a cost.
- Pick up health items. GamePix mentions special items that increase health; take them before tricky jumps.
- Jump over the carrot creatures. The orange enemies with leaves on their heads stand on the raised ledges in level 1.
Who is Super Onion Boy for?
Players starting the series
The original sets up the kidnapping that the sequel resolves, so it is the place to begin.
Speed-minded platformer fans
The TIME counter rewards players who move through a level without stopping.
Fans of Super Steve World
Same developer, same title-screen layout, same HUD and controls card, with a round onion hero instead of Steve.
Coins, stars and the timer
The HUD shows lives (×05), a five-digit score, two item slots, a coin counter and a TIME countdown that began at about 306 in our run of level 1. GamePix says stars add to the score and special items restore health. There are 15 levels in total. We found no source on what happens when TIME reaches zero.
