Gem Twins: two siblings, one gem each, 27 stages

Gem Twins is a retro pixel-art puzzle platformer by KezArts in which you control a pair of twins and bring each of them to a gem inside compact, single-screen stages. The first two stages introduce the siblings one at a time — a red twin heading for a red gem, then a green twin heading for a green one — and GamePix describes the full game as combining the two siblings' different abilities, with the spacebar switching control between them, while the feed text credits them with a freezing ability that turns the idle twin into part of the solution. There are 27 stages in the level-select grid, plus a separate speedrun mode on the main menu.

How to play Gem Twins

Every stage is one screen of blocks, ledges and gems. You finish it by getting the twins to their gems, and a stage-select screen keeps track of what you have opened.

  1. 1

    Open the stage list

Click START on the main menu. If the first click does nothing, click again: the first press can be taken by GamePix's opening ad check.

  2. 2

    Walk and jump

Walk using A/D or the arrow keys; W, Up, X or I is jump. The first stages print these keys on screen.

  3. 3

    Reach the matching gem

Touch the gem with the twin of the same colour. In stage 1 that is the red twin and the red gem.

  4. 4

    Use both twins

Press the action key (Space, C, U or O) to work with the other sibling, and plan where the idle twin should wait.

Controls

Desktop

  • A / D or Left / Right arrow keys move the active twin
  • W, Up arrow, X or I make the twin jump
  • Space, C, U or O is the action key; GamePix says Space swaps twins
  • P pauses and R restarts the stage, as labelled on the HUD

Phone & tablet

  • On a touchscreen the menu switches to large Start, Speedrun and Credits buttons
  • Turn the phone sideways; the stages are laid out in landscape

What sets Gem Twins apart

Colour-coded siblings

Each twin has a colour and a gem of the same colour, so a glance at the screen tells you who has to go where.

A separate speedrun mode

Speedrun sits beside Start on the main menu, and the game reports speedrun times to GamePix as a score.

Keyboard hints drawn into the stage

Early stages print the controls in pixel text below the play area, so no manual is needed.

Several keys for every action

Movement, jump and action each accept two to four keys, covering WASD players, arrow-key players and one-hand layouts such as I and O.

Tips for Gem Twins

  • Read the whole screen first. Stages are a single screen, so you can see both gems before either twin moves.
  • Decide where the idle twin waits. GamePix's own tip is that a frozen twin used well can save a stage.
  • Restart instead of undoing. R resets the stage at once, which is faster than walking a twin back.
  • Toggle audio from the corner. The note and speaker icons in the top-left, labelled M and N, switch music and sound.
  • Use the TIP button only when stuck. It is marked AD because it plays a rewarded advert before showing the hint.

Who is Gem Twins for?

Retro platformer fans

Chunky pixel art, a cloud-and-grass palette and single-screen levels.

Puzzle players

Stages are about ordering moves between two characters more than about reflexes.

Speedrunners

A dedicated mode times your runs and submits them as a score.

Stages and speedrun times

Normal play has no points: a stage counts as solved once the twins reach their gems, and in our test stage 1 led straight into stage 2. The grid shows nine stages per page across three pages. Speedrun mode is where time matters; the game sends the recorded time to GamePix as your score.
