Tower Defense Clash: build between waves, upgrade mid-fight, and keep the horde off the castle

Tower Defense Clash is a 2D top-down tower defense game in which you protect a castle by placing towers along the enemy path, upgrading them with gold, and casting spells on crowds of monsters. Before each wave there is a short break to set up; once the wave starts, every monster you kill pays gold on the spot, so you can build and upgrade mid-fight. The campaign has 18 replayable levels on a map that runs from green fields through snow, swamp and volcanic ground, and each finished level gets a star rating. It differs from the other two tower games on What Games Play: in Cursed Treasure 2 you are the villain guarding gems, and Tower Crush is a two-tower duel with no enemy path. Here you defend a human castle, using only the left mouse button.

How to play Tower Defense Clash

Monsters walk a fixed path toward your castle. Towers built beside the path attack them automatically; your job is choosing what to build where, when to upgrade, and when to cast spells.

  1. 1

Pick a level on the map

Press the play button, then click a numbered marker on the world map. Level 1 is the highlighted marker at the start.

  2. 2

    Build during the break

Use the pause before the first wave to place towers. Each type has its own ability, such as long-range archery or wide-impact boulders.

  3. 3

    Spend gold as it arrives

Every monster you defeat adds gold immediately. Use it during the wave to add towers or upgrade the ones already standing.

  4. 4

    Cast spells on crowds

Save spells for tight groups of enemies to stop them in their tracks before they reach the castle.

What sets Tower Defense Clash apart

Gold pays out mid-wave

Kills are paid in real time, so a wave that starts badly can be turned around by building or upgrading before the next group arrives.

Skip the wait with the skull

Clicking the loading skull icon calls the next wave at once. If your defences are ready, you do not have to sit through the pause.

Star ratings on 18 levels

Every level you finish is scored in stars, and any level can be replayed to raise that rating.

New towers and spells as you advance

Later levels move into new terrain on the world map and add towers and spells you did not have at the start.

Tips for Tower Defense Clash

  • Mix tower types. GamePix's own hint is to build a balanced set of towers rather than stacking one kind.
  • Cover bends in the path. A tower placed where the road curves stays in range of enemies for longer than one on a straight stretch.
  • Upgrade during the wave. Gold arrives as enemies fall, so spend it right away instead of waiting for the break.
  • Keep a spell for leaks. Hold one spell back for the group that slips past your towers near the castle.

Who is Tower Defense Clash for?

Classic tower defense players

Fixed path, build spots, waves, upgrades and spells, in the format the genre is known for.

Players who replay for stars

The per-level star rating gives a reason to go back to earlier maps with a better build.

Anyone playing with only a mouse

No keyboard is needed; building, upgrading, spells and skipping waves are all left-clicks.

Stars and replays

Each completed level in Tower Defense Clash awards a star rating, and all 18 levels can be replayed to improve it. Gold is the in-battle resource: it comes from defeated monsters and is spent on new towers and upgrades during the same level. The sources we checked do not explain exactly how many stars a given result earns, so we do not guess at a formula.
