Fractal Combat X: take a fighter jet to the planets of the Cora system
Fractal Combat X is a 3D jet combat game by OYK Games in which you fly missions over alien planets, lock on to enemy fighters and bring them down with missiles. The story opens at Cora Station, where your assistant Mai explains that the planets need clearing because valuable minerals are being lost every day. Between sorties you work from a hangar menu, where a 35,000-credit starting transfer buys your first fighter and later rewards pay for upgrades and pricier aircraft. Missions come in three kinds — Story, Quick and Daily — and each one has its own target count and time limit shown on the cockpit display.

How to play Fractal Combat X
A run through the game has two halves: spending credits in the hangar, then flying a mission until every target on the list is down or the clock runs out.
- 1
Buy a fighter
Open Jet Fighters and buy the VFX 96, a Class 1 jet that the starting 35,000 credits can pay for. Each jet shows its speed, agility, attack and defense numbers before you buy.
- 2
Pick a mission
In Missions, choose Story, Quick or Daily. The first Story area is Infested Rocks on Planet Solarium, and its opening mission, First Encounter, asks you to destroy five enemy fighters for a 700-credit reward.
- 3
Set the flight model and launch
Before take-off, choose Beginner, Arcade or Expert handling and a soundtrack, then press GO.
- 4
Lock on and fire
Turn toward the green arrows at the edge of your sight, keep the green-marked target in view until the lock confirms, then fire a missile. Red arrows warn you about missiles coming at you from off-screen.
Controls
Desktop
- W or Up Arrow climbs the jet (descends if you invert the controls)
- S or Down Arrow noses the jet down
- A / D or the Left / Right arrows turn the fighter
- Space launches a missile at the locked target
- Mouse clicks work the hangar menus; GamePix recommends the keyboard for flying
Phone & tablet
- In flight, a virtual stick sits in the lower-right corner of the screen
- The round FIRE button in the lower-left corner shoots missiles
- The game is landscape-only, so turn the phone sideways
What sets Fractal Combat X apart
A cockpit display full of numbers
The flight screen shows armor (3,000 on the VFX 96), shield (600), a target counter such as 0/5, an enemy count, a radar and a countdown that starts at 3:00 in the first mission.
Three handling models
Beginner, Arcade and Expert change how the jet flies, so you can start forgiving and switch to stricter handling later.
Credits buy jets, paint and upgrades
Every jet in the dealer's list has a class and a price. Engine, Missiles, Control, Armor and Electronics can each be upgraded, and a paint skin for the VFX 96 costs 2,500 credits.
Daily missions with entry rules
Daily missions rotate and ask for a certain type of jet or upgrade level before you can fly them, which gives the hangar purchases a purpose.
Tips for Fractal Combat X
- Keep a little money back. After buying the VFX 96 you have 1,000 credits left, so finish a few paying missions before planning the next purchase.
- Follow the green arrows. When no target is on screen, the arrows at the edge of your sight show which way to turn.
- Wait for the lock. A missile fired before the lock confirms is easy to waste; hold the target in view first.
- Change your flight path under fire. GamePix's advice is to fly in varied patterns and dive when an enemy missile gets close.
Who is Fractal Combat X for?
Flight-game players on a laptop
The keyboard layout covers everything, so you can fly without a joystick or gamepad.
Players who like a hangar to manage
Jets, paint schemes and five upgrade tracks give each mission's reward something to be spent on.
Sci-fi fans
The missions take place over other planets, with a space-station hub and characters who brief you between flights.
Mission rewards and credits
Every mission lists a reward before you accept it — 700 credits for First Encounter. After the flight, a debrief screen adds up the mission reward, a bonus for extra enemies and a deduction for armor damage into one total. Credits are the only currency: they pay for new jets, paint, and the Engine, Missiles, Control, Armor and Electronics upgrades. If your jet takes too much damage it is shot down and the mission has to be flown again.
