Superbike Hero: lean through a grid of motorbikes
Superbike Hero is a 3D motorcycle racing game in which your superbike accelerates by itself and you steer it with the arrow keys through a pack of rival riders. The Superbike Series crosses Europe and the Middle East over four circuits, each with its own outline and difficulty: Donnington in the UK (Easy), Misano in Italy (Medium), Barcelona in Spain (Hard) and Lusail in Qatar (Expert). The How to Play card asks you to boost between opponents, hang on around tight corners, collect coins and upgrade the bike for the next race; GamePix names grip and speed as the upgrades. Our first start put us 18th in the field. It is the only motorbike circuit racer on What Games Play; Bike Mania 2 is a side-view trials game and MX Offroad Master uses pedal bikes downhill.

How to play Superbike Hero
You never touch a throttle. Each race is a question of where to put the bike as the field bunches up in front of you.

Open the series
Press Play Now. The screen reads "Race 1 of 4" with Donnington UK selected and marked Easy.

Start the race
Press Start Race. The bike rolls off under the Superbike Hero gantry at the start line.

Weave and boost
Steer with Left and Right between riders and over the boost chevrons on the tarmac for a surge of speed.

Collect and upgrade
Pick up coins on the circuit and spend them on the bike before the next round.

Circuits in four countries
The UK, Italy, Spain and Qatar, each drawn as a track outline on the series screen with an Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert tag.
Boost chevrons
Chevron markings on the track give a burst of speed. The GamePix tip is to time them so you leave rivals behind.
Upgrades for grip and speed
Coins go into two stats named by GamePix: grip for holding the corners and speed for the straights.
Steering is the only input
With the throttle handled for you, the arrow keys only decide your line between the other riders.
Tips for Superbike Hero
- Time your boosts. A chevron hit just before a gap opens gets you past more riders than one hit behind a wall of bikes.
- Hang on in the tight corners. The How to Play card singles out tight corners; that is where grip upgrades pay off.
- Go after the coins. Coins are the only way to upgrade grip and speed between rounds.
- Pass between riders, not into them. The instructions tell you to boost between opponents, so look for the space beside a bike.
- Learn Donnington first. It is rated Easy; Lusail at the end of the series is rated Expert.
