Stock Car Hero: start at the back, finish at the front
Stock Car Hero is a 3D stock car racing game by b10b in which the car handles its own throttle and you do nothing but steer. The Stock Car Series runs across four North American venues in a fixed order: Daytona in Florida, Troy in Ohio, Talladega in Alabama and Sonoma in California, rated Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert. You normally start near the back of a full field, and our first race began in 18th place. Bumping another car or running off the tarmac costs you a large chunk of speed, so the race is about finding gaps rather than holding a button down. Coins picked up on track and earned by finishing position buy upgrades between rounds. On What Games Play it is the racing game with the fewest keys: two.

How to play Stock Car Hero
The How to Play card sums it up: compete across North America, dodge traffic, boost around banked corners, collect coins and upgrade your car for the next race.

Press Play Now
The title screen has How to Play and Play Now. The series screen then shows "Race 1 of 4" with Daytona highlighted.

Start the race
Press Start Race. The field lines up under a Stockcar Hero gantry and the car starts moving on its own.

Steer through the pack
Use A/D or Left/Right to move across the track and into gaps between cars. Your position shows in the top-right corner.

Upgrade and move on
After the flag you earn points and coins by finishing place. Spend coins on upgrades, then race the next venue.

Two keys for a whole race
There is no gas or brake input. Everything you do in a race is a left or right steering choice.

Contact costs speed
Hitting another car or leaving the track does not end the race, but it bleeds off a large amount of speed that you have to rebuild.

Tips for Stock Car Hero
- Aim for wide gaps. Even a light bump slows the car, so pass where there is room rather than squeezing through.
- Hold the inside line. GamePix's guide recommends sticking to the inside of the track whenever you can.
- Skip a risky booster. A boost arrow is not worth it if reaching it sends you off the tarmac or into another car.
- Keep speed building. Consistent, clean laps matter more than one fast move, because every hit resets your momentum.
- Watch the progress bar. The bar between Start and the chequered flag at the top shows how much race is left to gain places.
