Grand Prix Hero: four rounds, one open-wheel car
Grand Prix Hero is a 3D formula-style racing game in which you drive an open-wheel single-seater through a four-round Grand Prix Series, steering with the arrow keys from a camera just behind the car. The rounds are the Italian, British, Japanese and Monaco Grands Prix, played in that order and marked "Race 1 of 4" on the calendar screen. The game's own instructions list the jobs: dodge traffic, boost, collect coins and upgrade your car for the next race. In our first race the field was spread out ahead and we started in 12th. Where Stock Car Hero on this site is about banked American ovals, Grand Prix Hero puts you in a lighter, open-wheel car on circuits lined with red-and-white kerbs and trees.

Steer with Left and Right, weave past slower cars, and pick up the gold coins and boosts on the track.

- Work on your cornering. GamePix's tip for this game is that clean cornering gives you the edge.
- Avoid contact. GamePix tells you to avoid collisions; pass on the side where the gap is widest.
- Collect the coins you can reach safely. They pay for the upgrades you need before the later rounds.
- Use the progress bar. The strip at the top shows how far the race has run, so you know how much time is left to gain places.
